The latest "Civil Aviation Order 95.8 Instrument 2011" (.pdf file) from CASA has been reworded to make it finally legal to fly Quads & Trikes in Australia !
A good syllabus on Wheeled Launch & Landing procedures !
Foot Launch paramotoring accreditation is predominantly supported by the HGFA, and offers the most diversified range of Launch & Landing opportunities of paragliding.
Wheel Launch paramotoring accreditations is currently only supported by the RAA, it offers a quicker & cheaper training courses as you don't need to learn all the complicated foot launch & landing procedures. Great if you are not as fit, young or you simply don't want to run to enjoy this amazing sport.
NB: Apparently it is NO LONGER Legal to fly a wheeled type paraglider aircraft (WPPG) via the HGFA in Australia !
Lets all clap our hands for the incompetence of CASA & the HGFA to nut-out this long standing matter that stems from a simple "Wording Oversite" that allows the likes of an AeroChute Quad to fly but not a Safer BlackHawk Quad.
Many pilots that have previously completed a HGFA WPPG training course are very disappointed now they have now been told it is now illegal to fly !
FYI: Apparently most of the board of the HGFA are pure PG pilots & many PPG pilots don't think they want the sport to be simplified into a 3~4 day WPPG course ...like the rest of the world !
Apparently some flight instructors won't make as much money, unfortunately these instructors actually miss the point that over 75% of pilots over 50yrs of age only want to do wheeled launch, thus introducing many more people to our sport.
Whether you are young or old, if you don't wish to carry a 30kg back-pack with engine and fuel to get airborne then you really should look at our Wheeled Quad aviation system, commonly call "Wheeled Power Paragliding" (WPPG).
Without question light wind launch and landings are relatively easy, especially with a quad or trike wheeled buggy, although a Trikes (3 wheeled) are way more susceptible and unstable in windy launch and landing situations. So, still mornings and evenings conditions are far better for a trike type of aircraft.
Wheel based Paraglider Buggy's are know by many terms (see this video of Trike v Quad Stability ) and come in many designs. We have found the ParaToys Quad to be the best designed of them all when taking into account weight, suspension, strength & portability, our LowBoy-II Quad is also designed with a protective roll type of frame that can be totally dismantled if required by the pilot in a matter of minutes. Our Quad is steered on the ground using your feet as on most buggies on the market today (for disabled persons we offer *free customisation). Regardless of the buggy option you choose WPPG training is designed to get you in the air safely and with minimal risk of injury and expense. No longer do you need to learn the hard and expensive way, but never the less all foot launch skills are good to learn as the art form is in the handling of the wing !
As we only sell equipment, the flight Instructor you select to do your flight training course with should have good first hand experience on the type equipment you choise.
A wheel based course can get you up in the air flying faster than a foot launch course, mainly because there are far less procedures to learn, note that the extra procedures like forward launch, revere launch, kiting your wing etc. are all worthy and should be learnt as part of you aviation knowledge !
These days there has been many logged cross country trips of over 1'000km accomplished in Australia, some recorded over 1'500km. |
